April articles 

Twenty-four teachers awarded grants

The WICPA Educational Foundation, Inc. awarded Career Awareness Grants to 24 teachers who attended the fall High School Educators Symposium. A total of $37,195 was given for local projects that promote accounting as a career and involve interaction with Wisconsin CPAs. Read about the grants here.

AP Accounting Workshop coming in June

On June 21-23, DPI, WBEA and the WICPA will host a three-day workshop for teachers who desire to be a part of the AP Accounting pilot project in Wisconsin. Teachers who attended last year said, “I totally changed my methodology for teaching accounting after attending this workshop.” “This professional development was second to none.”  Register by May 14.

High School Educators Symposium 2010

On Nov. 12, the Ninth Annual High School Educators Accounting Symposium will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison. Brochures will be mailed in September. Forensic accounting will be this year’s theme. If you would like to join a Symposium planning conference call next month to give your thoughts and ideas for the 2010 event, please contact Mary Murray.

April is financial literacy month

President Obama has declared April 2010 as National Financial Literacy Month. His proclamation calls “upon all Americans to observe this month with programs and activities to improve their understanding of financial principles and practices.”
