The WICPA Board of Directors represents the membership, exercises leadership, participates in strategic planning, and approves the annual WICPA budget, bylaw amendments, selection of auditors, and other actions relating to organizational governance. The board consists of 15 members.
The WICPA Nominations Committee will be seeking Board member applications for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. Open Board member positions will include Chair-elect and three (3) Directors. The application for nominations will be available Summer 2018.

William L. Komisar, CPA, J.D. is a principal at CliftonLarsonAllen, and specializes in tax planning and consulting with a diverse range of business and individual clients. Komisar has been a member of the WICPA since 1980, is past chair of the WICPA Educational Foundation and currently is on the WICPA Board of Directors. He is also a past chair of the Jewish Home & Care Center and its foundation and currently serves on its boards and executive committee. He currently serves on the audit and compliance committee of Children’s Hospital, as well as on several other organizations including private foundations. He is the 2015 recipient of the WICPA Excellence Award for Public Service. He and his wife, Becky, live in Mequon and have three grown children.
Michael D. Akers, CPA, Ph.D. – Chair-elect
Michael D. Akers, CPA, Ph.D. is the Charles T. Horngren Professor of Accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting at Marquette University. A WICPA member since 1997, Akers serves on the Excellence Awards Committee and has participated in the WICPA High School Educator Symposium. He received the 2015 WICPA Excellence Award for Education. He and his wife, Mary, live in New Berlin and have four daughters, Chrissy, Rebecca, Victoria and Laura.
Steven G. Handrick, CPA, CGMA - Past Chair
Steven G. Handrick, CPA, CGMA has been a member of the WICPA since 1982. He served on the board of directors from 2005–2008 and WICPA Credit Union Committee. He has been chair of the AICPA PCPS Large Firm Group since 2012. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Green Bay and its current treasurer, plus treasurer for Rotary District 6220 and Rotary International Midwest PETS. He lives in De Pere with his wife, Mary. They have four adult children and two grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family, vacationing in the Caribbean and watching the Green Bay Packers.
Katherine L. Hauser, CPA, CGMA – Secretary/Treasurer
Katherine L. Hauser, CPA, CGMA is the director of financial reporting at Herzing University in Menomonee Falls. A WICPA member since 2001, Hauser has served on the CPAs in Industry Fall Conference Planning Task Force since 2007 and was a director from 2013–2016. She is an avid reader, aspiring cellist and an enthusiastic sports fan.

Jon C. Gaines, CPA, MBA, CGMA is the vice president-business services and finance at Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) in Milwaukee. Gaines has served as a member of both the WICPA Accounting Careers Committee and Not-for-Profit & Health Care Conference Planning Task Force. Outside of WICPA, he volunteers with several local organizations. He lives in Wauwatosa with his wife, Andrea, and his son, Jon II. He also has two adult children, Chris and Carra. He enjoys traveling, reading and indoor skydiving.
Ryan J. Hanson, CPA, CGMA – Director
Ryan J. Hanson, CPA, CGMA is the financial accounting manager at MGIC Investment Corporation in Milwaukee. Hanson, a WICPA member since 2004, serves as a member of both WICPA Public Policy Committee and Competency Enhancement Task Force. He is chair of the Institute’s CPAs in Industry Fall Conference Planning Task Force, of which he has been a member since 2007. Outside of the WICPA, he teaches financial literacy and coaches youth sports. He lives in Brookfield with his wife, Amanda, and their two children: Evan and Haydan Mae.
Patrick G. Hoffert, CPA – Director
Patrick G. Hoffert, CPA is a partner at Reilly, Penner & Benton LLP (RPB) in Milwaukee. Hoffert currently leads RPB’s ERISA audit practice. He has been a member of the WICPA since 1999. He served on the On Balance Editorial Advisory Committee. He is an avid Wisconsin sports fan and he enjoys golf and bowling. He and his wife, Jenny, live in Waukesha with his two children, Wendy and Ethan.
Debra L. Lenz, CPA, CGMA, CIA, CRMA – Director
Debra L. Lenz, CPA, CGMA, CIA, CRMA is an audit lead at Harley-Davidson, Inc. in Milwaukee. Lenz has been an active member of the WICPA since 1998 and serves on the CPAs in Industry Fall Conference Task Force. She is a past director on the WICPA Educational Foundation Board and past president of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. She is also an adjunct professor of accounting at Cardinal Stritch University. She lives in Pleasant Prairie with her husband, Joe, and their two daughters, Chloe and Adelynn.

Terri M. Lillesand, CPA is a tax shareholder at Schenck SC in the Sheboygan office. Lillesand currently leads Schenck’s firm wide tax practice. She has been a member of the WICPA since 1992 and currently serves on the Federal Taxation Committee. She and her husband, Tim, live in Sheboygan and have two daughters, Hannah and Rachel.

Matthew A. Los, CPA is assistant controller at Bradley Corporation, Menomonee Falls. Los, a WICPA member since 2008, has served on its Young Professional and Excellence Awards Committees and volunteers with other local organizations. He and his wife, Amy, live in Mukwonago and have two children, Natalie and Jacob.

Steven A. Pullara, CPA, is a partner in charge of the construction and real estate practice group at Smith & Gesteland, LLP in Madison. Pullara has been a member of the WICPA since 1987 and was the past-president of the former WICPA Southern Chapter in 1996. He is a member of the WICPA Public Policy Committee. He was awarded the most active member of the WICPA Southern Chapter in 1993. He has been chair of the board of Smith & Gesteland Executive Committee, past-president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry Madison Chapter 1997, past secretary of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Volleyball booster club, and past chair of the board for Choice Construction, Inc. He lives in Madison with his wife, Patti. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing softball and golf.

Matthew J. Schaefer, CPA, CGMA is vice president of Regulatory Compliance at the Bank of Wisconsin Dells. Schaefer has been a member of the WICPA Public Policy Committee since 2010 and has participated as a member of the WICPA Nominations Committee. He has previously served in the United States Navy and has been deployed on operations in the Middle East, Eastern and Western Europe and Caribbean regions. He lives in Wisconsin Dells with his wife, Laura, and their daughter, Cora.
Angela C. Thomas, CPA – Director
Angela C. Thomas, CPA is the general accounting section chief at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Madison. A WICPA member since 2010, Thomas serves on the Public Policy Committee and regularly volunteers to promote financial literacy at educational institutions. She enjoys spending time outdoors and is a member of the Prairie Athletic Tri-Team and regularly trains and competes in triathlons. Thomas is a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. She has volunteered with CAP since 1994 and currently serves in the Southwest Group promoting the programs three missions: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and the Cadet Program. She lives in Sun Prairie with her husband and their son.

Neil R. Keller, CPA, ABV, CVA is the partner in charge of the Tax Department for Sikich, LLP. Keller has been a member of the WICPA since 1996 and currently serves on the Finance Committee, Membership Advisory Committee and Accounting Careers Committee. He lives in Pewaukee with his wife, Lynn, and their two children: Lily and Emmy.
