Appleton East High School teacher awarded grant
BROOKFIELD - Darlene Londo, accounting teacher at Appleton East High School in Appleton, has been awarded a 2010 Accounting Careers Awareness Grant in the amount of $852 from the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Educational Foundation, Inc. Accounting teachers who participated in the fall 2009 WICPA High School Educators Symposium were offered the opportunity to write proposals about why they should receive funding. Londo was one of 24 teachers to receive a grant. Londo will use her grant money to hold a business luncheon and accounting panel presentation. The panelists will be former Appleton East students who are currently CPAs or are studying to be CPAs. The grant allows schools to partner with CPAs to give students the opportunity to see what it is like to be a CPA. “The WICPA Educational Foundation is pleased with Londo’s plan to bring accounting to the lives of her students,” said Jim Miller, CPA, president of the Educational Foundation. The WICPA encourages lasting innovations that can be shared with other teachers. In addition, it supports career awareness and also provides accounting scholarships and grants to individuals and organizations that aim to further their education in accounting. |
