De Pere High School teacher awarded grant
BROOKFIELD - Carrie Knutson, accounting teacher at De Pere High School in De Pere, has been awarded a 2009 Accounting Careers Awareness Grant in the amount of $866 from the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Educational Foundation, Inc. Accounting teachers who participated in the fall 2009 WICPA High School Educators Symposium were offered the opportunity to write proposals about why they should receive funding. Knutson was one of 24 teachers to receive a grant. Knutson plans to use the grant money to hold a business luncheon and panel presentation for her students with CPAs and college professors. CPAs and professors will discuss accounting career opportunities with the students. The grant allows schools to partner with CPAs to give students the opportunity to see what it is like to be a CPA. “The WICPA Educational Foundation is pleased with Knutson’s plan to bring accounting to the lives of her students,” said Jim Miller, CPA, president of the Educational Foundation. The WICPA encourages lasting innovations that can be shared with other teachers. In addition, it supports career awareness and also provides accounting scholarships and grants to individuals and organizations that aim to further their education in accounting. |
