Slinger High School teacher awarded grant
BROOKFIELD - Arlene Feucht, accounting teacher at Slinger High School in Slinger, has been awarded a 2010 Accounting Careers Awareness Grant in the amount of $964 from the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Educational Foundation, Inc. Accounting teachers who participated in the fall 2009 WICPA High School Educators Symposium were offered the opportunity to write proposals about why they should receive funding. Feucht was one of 24 teachers to receive a grant. Feucht plans to use the grant money for a hands-on activity with West Bend Mutual Insurance Company. She and her students will meet with CPAs from West Bend Mutual five to eight times during the semester, working on projects dealing with depreciation, internal controls and budgeting. The grant allows schools to partner with CPAs to give students the opportunity to see what it is like to be a CPA. “The WICPA Educational Foundation is pleased with Feucht’s plan to bring accounting to the lives of her students,” said Jim Miller, CPA, president of the Educational Foundation. The WICPA encourages lasting innovations that can be shared with other teachers. In addition, it supports career awareness and also provides accounting scholarships and grants to individuals and organizations that aim to further their education in accounting. |
