WICPA welcomes more than 400 new CPAs to the profession

    Brookfield, June 9, 2011 - The Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants welcomed more than 400 new CPAs across the state, who successfully completed the requirements for obtaining a CPA license in Wisconsin, at the New CPA Welcome Dinner on Friday, June 3 at the Milwaukee Marriott West.

    The evening celebrated the accomplishment of passing one of the most rigorous licensing tests and becoming a CPA. Attendees networked with other new CPAs and WICPA members, learned valuable information on succeeding as a CPA from keynote speaker David Gay, CPA , partner with Ernst & Young in Milwaukee and enjoyed dueling piano entertainment.

    “It was my pleasure to be able to congratulate all of the newly licensed CPA’s and share with them some advice for continued success,” Gay said. “They are entering the profession at an important time and we’re excited to welcome their new ideas, enthusiasm, and commitment.”

    In addition to honoring teh new licensed CPAs, the WICPA recognized Matthew Saje Kult of Ernst & Young LLP and Andrew N. Rebstock of PricewaterhouseCoopers, two of 15 CPA Exam candidates recently awarded the 2009 Elijah Watt Sells Award given by the American Insititute of CPAs for earning the highest cumulative scores on all four sections of the Exam.  

    Although the unemployment rate is high right now, the outlook is promising for accountants. Big 4 accounting firms are looking to hire thousands of employees this year. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow by 22 percent between 2008 and 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.

The WICPA is the premier professional organization for Wisconsin CPAs, with more than 8,000 members working in public accounting, industry, government and education. Like other professionals, certified public accountants are required to obtain additional education, take a rigorous exam and become certified.
