Granting success
Twenty-one Wisconsin high school teachers have been awarded Accounting Career Awareness Grants by the WICPA Educational Foundation, Inc. The Foundation awarded $39,380 for local projects that promote accounting as a career and involve interaction with Wisconsin CPAs. Read the full article.

Fall Symposiums scheduled
New this fall, the WICPA will host a mini version of its annual High School Educators Symposium at the Wisconsin Business Educators Association conference, 2:30 – 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25 in Appleton. In addition, the full-day event will be on Friday, Nov. 14 at Sheraton Madison Hotel. Survey results from last year’s Symposium evaluations showed Madison as the top choice for location.

Accounting careers on  YouTube
Have your students watch a nine minute video on accounting careers produced by the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. Hear from a variety of CPAs from organizations like the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, New Balance shoes and more. Visit YouTube.

CPAs Care
With the new 2008 CPAs Care Campaign, we will highlight the exceptional things that CPAs are doing in their communities. This spring and fall, the WICPA is running lively new print ads in business-related publications. The ads feature seven CPAs who perform extraordinary deeds. Read more about these CPAs here.

YES program introduces students to accounting
Since 1999, high school students travel to Oshkosh each year to participate in the Young Entrepreneurial Scholars program. The YES program was launched in 1999 to attract more minorities into CPA careers. Supporters and sponsors of the program include the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs, College of Business at UW-Oshkosh, its Center for Academic Support and Diversity and National Association of Black Accountants – Milwaukee Chapter.
