Clarification: Based on an e-mail to the author from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue after this article was originally published in July 2010, please note that the Act that bring Wisconsin's income tax treatment of Roth IRA conversions in compliance with federal income tax treatment is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2010. Therefore, all IRA conversions in 2010 by Wisconsin taxpayers will not be subject to AGI limitations imposed prior to the effective date of the Act.  

Tax pros need sufficient knowledge to help customers select the right retirement plan.
