Membership Benefits
As a member of the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs, you are entitled to
many benefits. You may have already taken advantage of some of them, and you may not know
that others are available to you.
The most significant benefit of membership in the WICPA
is knowledge transfer, whether that be through networking, continuing professional
education, conferences, committee and board leadership,
our
magazine, Web site, or other venues.
Continuing professional education
WICPAs continuing professional education programs provide
more than 1,400 hours of CPE credit a year. Courses are varied, with offerings in every
area from specific software applications to taxation, financial planning, business
management, accounting and auditing, and specialized knowledge areas, including
litigation, real estate, non-profits and others.
The Bridge (published bi-monthly in the
months opposite On Balance) lists many of the upcoming CPE programs
offered by WICPA. Seminars, conferences, breakfast programs, TGIF, webcasts and
discussion groups are promoted in The Bridge in order to keep the member
apprised of CPE opportunities to meet their educational needs.
Courses are listed in The CPE
Catalog, on the Web site and in The Bridge. Special conference brochures provide all the details you need. Registration is
easy and fast, with electronic registration offered as an option.

Leadership
As a CPA and as a WICPA member, you are encouraged to become
involved and help chart the course for the profession. This article offers a brief outline
of the opportunities that are open to your input and participation. But you must take the
first step. Review this Web site and On Balance for your interest
areas and to learn about the member leaders in those areas. Contact the committee chairs
and ask how you can become involved. Each year, selected leaders are recognized for their
contributions.

Public outreach
You know how difficult it is to keep the unique skills and services
of the CPA in the minds of those with whom you do business. A top WICPA priority is to do
that for you. Every year, the WICPA purchases advertising on statewide radio and in
business publications promoting the CPA as a trusted business adviser. Members and WICPA
staff also work with local media all over the state to promote business and accounting
issues that require the CPAs expertise.

National representation
Wisconsinites have a long tradition of participation at the
national level in everything from business to politics. The WICPA continues that tradition
with active leadership in the American Institute of CPAs and other national organizations.
WICPA leaders provide a voice for you in decisions about the profession at the national
level. Your WICPA representatives are not running with the pack, they are
setting the pace.
The Institute takes a proactive approach in working with government
on your behalf. Member leaders keep watch on legislation that might impact the profession,
and, when necessary, work with lawmakers to help make needed changes. The WICPA offers
opportunities for political contributions, enabling you to have a direct impact on public
policy.

Advancing the profession: the next generation
Members and
WICPA staff also work together on student awareness. The WICPA helps sponsor
events for students and educators, and is represented by members at conferences
and activities. Efforts are made to bring CPAs into the classroom to help
students from fifth grade and up to see the exciting opportunities available to
CPAs. Scholarships help the next generation with their educational goals.
