The Wisconsin
Institute of CPAs offers access to the largest and most active group of
CPAs in Wisconsin. CPAs work in every economic sector and for every
type of organization. Reporters can interview Wisconsin CPAs for
accounting information about health care, technology, construction,
manufacturing, education, printing, government, banking & finance,
agriculture, nonprofits, the environment, mergers & acquisitions,
personal finance, consulting, small and family businesses, fraud,
regulations, currency & exchange rates, taxes—anything having to do with
business, finance and the markets. CPAs have influence over major
decisions made by their employers every day—and many are
employers. CPAs must stay current in their fields: They are responsible
for complying with business and government standards every day, and
rules and regulations change constantly.
With more than
8,200 members, the WICPA can help media find the individual CPA sources
they need. Many WICPA members are active in the state and their local
communities: politically, civically and professionally. Forty-seven
percent of WICPA members work in business and industry, 34 percent are
in public accounting, and 7 percent work in government or education. The
remaining 12 percent are college students and retired members. The
profession was once comprised entirely of men, but today women make up
more than 35 percent of WICPA members and more than 50 percent of all
new CPAs. Sixteen staff members at WICPA headquarters in Brookfield
serve these members across the state of Wisconsin.
