Advocacy

The mission of the WICPA includes serving its members through involvement in the legislative process. The WICPA Public Policy Committee established as critical objectives strengthening legislative and regulatory advocacy for the profession and improving members’ understanding of the value of this activity.

Public Policy Committee activities accomplish the WICPA mission and objectives with respect to legislative involvement by:

  • Raising approximately $100,000 annually in CPAC/LIF contributions.
  • Working to ensure that no legislation unfavorable to CPAs is enacted.
  • Maintaining key influential member contacts with key legislators and decision makers.
  • Emphasizing the importance of legislative and public policy involvement by the WICPA to general WICPA membership.
  • Communicating legislative involvement efforts and successes to members.

How You Can Participate

Volunteer to be a legislative contact

As a legislative contact for the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs, you can play a vital role in the WICPA’s governmental affairs efforts. A contact’s responsibilities include staying abreast of legislative issues; maintaining a personal or professional relationship with a Wisconsin legislator and keeping in touch with his/her legislator to foster a relationship. Sign up here.

Contact your legislators

Writing a brief letter to a legislator urging him or her to support a WICPA position is extremely easy and effective. Legislators closely monitor incoming mail and are sensitive to the wishes of those constituents who take the time to write. They know these constituents are likely to vote and be active in the community. Contact information for Wisconsin legislators can be viewed here.
