The IRS is extending the period in which it will accept digitally signed and emailed documents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The agency in August expanded the use of e-signatures as a way to make it easier for taxpayers to file various tax forms and other documents through the end of 2020.
In a Dec. 1 memo, the IRS extended the period until June 30, 2021. The IRS accepts images of signatures in tiff, jpg, jpeg or pdf format as well as Office and zip files.
