Second round of EIPs begins

December 30, 2020

Treasury and the IRS started its second round of economic impact payments (EIPs), often referred to as stimulus checks, to millions of Americans late night Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Authorized by newly enacted COVID-relief legislation, the second round of payments, or “EIP 2,” is generally $600 for individuals and $1,200 for married couples filing a joint return.

The IRS reported that initial direct deposit payments would start as early as Tuesday night for some and will continue into next week. The IRS will begin sending paper checks Wednesday, Dec. 30.

The IRS emphasizes that there is no action required by eligible individuals to receive this second payment. Learn more.
