Another new tax scam

November 19, 2018

The IRS and Security Summit partners are warning taxpayers of a new email scam to entice users to open documents containing malware.

The email looks as if it’s coming from the IRS, with the subject line containing the words “tax transcripts” and an attachment with a similar name.

Tax transcripts are available online and accessible with an account and password. The IRS does not send unsolicited emails and would not send a transcript by email.

The IRS advises to use caution when receiving an email, phone call or letter claiming to be from the IRS and follow its guidelines to keep your personal information secure.
