The IRS reminds federal tax return preparers to renew their preparer tax identification numbers (PTINs) now for 2022. All current PTINs will expire on Dec. 31.
The fee to renew or get a PTIN is $35.95 for 2022. The PTIN fee is nonrefundable. Tax preparers must pay in full to complete the process.
The PTIN online renewal process only takes 15 minutes to complete. A paper option is also available but can take more than a month to process. Read more.
