AICPA asks IRS to do more for taxpayer relief

January 13, 2022

AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon sent a message to the IRS and Treasury on Jan. 10 urging them to do more for taxpayer relief this season.

“For more than 18 months, the AICPA has repeatedly and publicly recommended to the IRS that they take reasonable actions that would meaningfully reduce persistent, unnecessary and erroneous notifications and help taxpayers,” Melancon wrote.

Those proposed actions include halting compliance actions until the IRS can resolve its issues, aligning requests for timely resolution of issues and providing taxpayers with a simplified abatement process. See the statement.
