The IRS has announced it is suspending the mailing of certain automated notices due to a backlog in processing returns.
The agency did not provide a detailed list of which notices it would halt, saying it is considering suggestions to help taxpayers and the tax community.
However, the IRS explained certain statutes require the issuance of many notices within a certain time to be legally valid.
Noting the IRS announcement, the AICPA responded by urging the agency to do more to reduce erroneous automated notices and unnecessary taxpayer contact.
