Taxpayers reminded to request IP PIN for added security

The IRS is reminding taxpayers — particularly those who are identity theft victims — to request an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) from the agency.

By requesting IP PINs, taxpayers can prevent thieves from claiming tax refunds in their names.

An IP PIN is a six-digit number the IRS assigns to help prevent the misuse of an individual’s Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number on federal income tax returns. Learn more.
