Recovering from work-related stress

July 8, 2022

While sustainable job performance requires us to thrive at work, only 32% of employees across the globe say they’re thriving in their roles, according to a new Gallup workplace report.

With 43% of employees reporting high levels of stress, it’s no surprise that most workers feel like they’re on the verge of burnout.

To manage work-related stress, it helps to detach yourself psychologically from the workday. Research shows that even thinking about work detracts from your ability to recover from stress. Detachment leads to better recovery and even improvements in work-related outcomes, such as performance and engagement.

Harnessing the power of micro-breaks during the workday can also help to alleviate stress. Some research shows that micro-breaks of about 10 minutes throughout the workday are effective for recovering from work stress and job demands. See more stress recovery tips.
