With two weeks left until filing season, the IRS announced their free tax filing software is now open. Free File helps eligible taxpayers navigate post-reform tax law and electronically prepare returns. The software program is available to individuals with incomes less than $66,000.
FreeFile is the product of a partnership between the IRS and the Free File Alliance—a collaboration of 12 private partners. It is accessible only through IRS.gov, and is available for eligible taxpayers to use before the start of the filing season on Jan. 28. On that day, other e-filing services will become available to all Americans, regardless of income level.
