The IRS recently mailed notices to over 9 million individuals and families who may not typically file a tax return, likely because of low income, to remind them of their probable eligibility for several pandemic-era tax credits. Now, the deadline is approaching this week on Thursday, Nov. 17.
The IRS letters sent to eligible taxpayers notified them of three credits: the 2021 recovery rebate credit, the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit. They were among the tax credits expanded under the American Rescue Plan Act.
The IRS in October said it would leave the Free File feature of its website open for an extra month, until Nov. 17, so eligible taxpayers can claim the benefits. Read more.
