Recalled IRS workers fight back

Through the IRS Lapsed Appropriations Contingency Plan, the IRS called back excepted and exempt employees without pay.

Now some employees are asking to stay home through a clause in their union contracts that offers an exemption for economic hardship. IRS employees are concerned they may not have the funds to get to and from work or to pay for childcare while working.

The absences raise concerns about tax return processing and refunds.
