IRS expands staffing to improve taxpayer services

The IRS has increased staffing at its Taxpayer Assistance Centers by 31% during fiscal 2023, thanks to funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.

As of Sept. 23, the IRS has hired 745 employees to staff its taxpayer assistance centers, which have served about 235,000 more taxpayers in fiscal year 2023 than in 2022 — an increase of 18%.

The IRS plans to further enhance its services, enforcement and technology over the next decade with the influx of $80 billion in funding, the agency said.
