DOR: Wisconsin retailers must calculate sales tax on credit card fees

June 10, 2025

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is reminding retailers to calculate the sales tax on credit card fees charged to consumers.

The taxable “sales price” of a transaction includes charges by a seller for any services necessary to complete a sale, even credit card fees.

The DOR urges retailers who have not yet calculated the sales tax on credit card fees to file amended tax returns and update their point-of-sale systems and/or accounting software.

Learn more about the sales tax treatment of credit card fees charged by retailers in the April 2025 Wisconsin Tax Bulletin.
