The IRS and Treasury will begin phasing out paper tax refund checks for individuals on Tuesday, Sept. 30, as required by Executive Order 14247.
The transition to electronic payments is designed to protect taxpayers, speed up refunds and cut costs, the IRS said in a news release.
The IRS also said it will publish detailed guidance for 2025 tax returns before the 2026 filing season begins. Taxpayers should continue using existing payment options until further notice.
