SEC proposes four-year plan to protect retail investors

June 25, 2018

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released a draft of a four-year plan to help and protect retail investors.

The plan’s primary focus is on retail investors and their retirement planning process. It also includes strategies to address new market developments, including cryptocurrencies, and to enhance the use of data and analytics. In addition, it lists five ways it will focus on the long-term interests of individuals and small, independent investors.

The SEC will also increase efforts to update processes to stay up to date with technology.

The strategic plan was developed after meetings with Congress, investors, businesses, academics and other experts and stakeholders. The SEC is seeking public comments on the proposed draft. Concerns and suggestions can be shared with PerformancePlan@sec.gov.
