Wisconsin won’t legalize medical marijuana anytime soon

December 26, 2019

Although support is growing for the legalization of medical marijuana in Wisconsin, it won’t happen next year or anytime soon, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos told The Associated Press in an interview Thursday, Dec. 19.

Progress is being made toward the legalization of medical marijuana, Vos said, but Senate Republicans remain opposed to the bill, which must be passed by both the state Senate and Assembly and be signed by Gov. Tony Evers before becoming law. Putting together the support needed to pass a bill legalizing medical marijuana in Wisconsin takes time, Vos said.

Potential opportunities exist for CPAs in the legalized medicinal and recreational marijuana markets. Learn more about the cannabis industry in the November/December 2019 issue of On Balance here.
