NASBA endorses legislation to protect state licensing boards from antitrust damages

July 30, 2018

CPA Congressman Mike Conaway (R-Texas) introduced the “Occupational Licensing Board Antitrust Damages Relief and Reform Act” (H.R. 6515), supported by NASBA, to protect state professional and occupational licensing boards.

The legislation addresses the antitrust law implications affected by the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision in North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners v. Federal Trade Commission.

The bill would protect state boards, board members and staff members from awards stemming from private antitrust litigation. The legislation requests a Government Accountability Office study to look at license reform and related issues.
