How anonymous are employee satisfaction surveys?

January 24, 2020

Many businesses send employees surveys to ask about their work, boss and company. Promising anonymity, employers encourage their workers to respond candidly. Unfortunately, some surveys contain enough specific questions to reveal the respondent’s identity.

When employees don’t trust the anonymity of such surveys, they tend to answer dishonestly. Some may lie about their title, salary level or years of experience to disguise their identity, resulting in incorrect and unhelpful survey results.

Instead of using “anonymous” employee satisfaction surveys, leaders should keep in touch with their employees in a more personable, human way.
