FTC actions lead to over $232M in refunds

Federal Trade Commission (FTC) actions in 2019 led to more than $232 million in consumer refunds, according to new FTC data.

A core objective of the FTC’s mission is to return money to consumers harmed by illegal business practices. Over the last four years, consumers have cashed in more than $1 billion in FTC refund checks.

Imposter scams were the most common type of fraud reported to the FTC in 2019. Government imposter scams, in particular, were the most frequently reported. More than 1.9 million consumers received FTC refund checks as a result of law enforcement cases.
