Responding to coronavirus concerns

March 5, 2020

Unknowns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) are breeding fear, impacting the economy and the market. Possible cases of the virus have appeared in Wisconsin as well. How should employers respond?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers interim guidance for businesses and employers to plan and respond to the coronavirus. The CDC encourages employers to remind their workers of preventative measures like washing their hands often and staying home when sick.

Employers should separate workers who appear to have acute respiratory illness symptoms, like a cough or shortness of breath, and send them home immediately.

Establish a business response plan for a COVID-19 outbreak with these considerations in mind.
