5-county baseball stadium sales tax ends

March 11, 2020

After 23 years, consumers will no longer have to pay baseball stadium sales tax in five Wisconsin counties starting March 31.

Wisconsin law will soon end the 0.1% baseball stadium and sales and use tax, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) recently announced. Implemented in 1996, the tax helped cover the construction and operating costs of Miller Park. The board that oversees the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District voted to end the tax on March 31.

Starting April 1, retailers in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine and Waukesha counties may no longer collect baseball stadium tax.

In other news, Menominee County will impose a 0.5% sales and use tax rate on retail sales and the storage of use or consumption of taxable products in the county starting April 1, the DOR also announced.
