IRS now accepts email, digital signatures

April 3, 2020

To help taxpayers and tax professionals during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the IRS is temporarily accepting images of signatures (scanned or photographed) and digital signatures on documents related to the determination or collection of tax liability documents.

Additionally, the IRS is allowing its employees to accept documents via email and to transmit documents to taxpayers using established secured messaging systems.

These measures will maximize the agency’s ability to execute critical duties as employees, taxpayers and their representatives work remotely during the pandemic.
