DWD addresses return-to-work concerns

May 18, 2020

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is addressing concerns from employers and employees about how to safely return to the workplace in light of the state’s Supreme Court ruling that struck down most of the Safer at Home order.

As it relates to unemployment claims, the Supreme Court's ruling does not have any impact on submitted applications or pending claims. The DWD will continue to process claims, adjudicate issues and pay unemployment insurance (UI) when due. If a laid-off or furloughed employee refuses to return to work, that employee may not be eligible for UI benefits.

Additionally, the DWD provides guidance for employers resuming their operations. Find it here.
