Cybercriminals are targeting mobile banking apps in an attempt to steal money as more Americans turn to online banking during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a public service announcement, the FBI said it expects to see hackers exploit mobile banking platforms, which have seen a 50% surge in use since the pandemic started.
The FBI specifically points to the threat of banking Trojans that involve a malicious virus hiding on a mobile device until the user downloads a legitimate banking app.
In order to combat these threats, the FBI recommends Americans only download banking apps from official app stores or from banking websites. Read more.
