Making a difference by addressing racism

The frequency of tragic events associated with racism in the nation has accelerated to a level Americans can no longer ignore, says Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, CPA, CGMA.

Ellison-Taylor is a former AICPA chairman and the current vice-chairman of the AICPA’s National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion.

Now that the nation is discussing gaps in opportunity, access and equity in the Black and African American community, it’s time to work together to overcome the systematic challenges in education, employment, health care and more.

Progress won’t happen overnight, but our resolve must be unwavering, Ellison-Taylor says. This 12-step plan to address racism and unconscious bias can help firms and businesses start or revamp their inclusion initiatives.
