AICPA supports keeping July 15 filing date

June 24, 2020

The AICPA Tax Executive Committee wants the July 15 filing deadline to stay after considering responses it received from a survey regarding whether or not the IRS should extend the date.

The survey, deployed in late May, asked Tax Section members two questions. A majority of respondents said they would be able to file returns or extensions on behalf of their clients by the July 15 due date, but a plurality of members wanted the IRS to move the deadline to Oct.15. Some respondents suggested other dates.

The Tax Executive Committee ultimately decided not to advocate for another delay, at this time, but will continue to monitor all the data points that fed into this conclusion.
