Overview

Sessions covered in this On-Demand replay of the Tax Conference:

Charitable Contributions of Property
Charitable giving of appreciated property, including real estate, business interests and other assets, can produce significant income and estate tax benefits. Recent case law and IRS activity reinforce and demonstrate that substantiation, compliance, valuation and timing issues could upset taxpayer planning and objectives. This session will address contribution requirements and, importantly, the apparent recent increasing interest of taxing authorities based on case law and the presenter's experience, in examining such gifts.

Practice Management Panel
The moderated panel will discuss current trends and future expectations for professionals in a tax practice environment.

IRS Update
This session will discuss the latest IRS updates from 2023 including new tools and programs all CPAs should be aware of. You'll hear about the current status of IRS operations, including hiring, tax return backlogs and other important news.

Qualified Appraisals (Valuations) for Tax Reporting Purposes
This session will explore several situations in which your client would need a qualified appraisal and the reasons why a qualified appraisal would be necessary; what is required to be considered a qualified appraisal for tax reporting purposes; and what you and your clients should expect from an appraisal and the questions you should be asking. Additionally, the session will discuss actual client audit situations in which a qualified appraisal played a key role in the negotiation and resolution of the audit.

Sec. 83 Overview & Issues
This session will discuss how Sec. 83 applies to the transfer of property in connection with the performance of services, including when the transferee's rights are subject to a substantial risk of forfeiture/vesting requirement, and the effect of a Sec. 83(b) election.

Hot Tax & IRS Practice & Procedure Issues
This session will include a discussion of timely tax and ethics issues that the tax practitioner needs to be made aware of.
