Eve Borenstein, Eve Borenstein
Eve Rose Borenstein maintains a nation-wide law practice addressing the tax and regulatory rules applied to “tax-exempt” organizations by the IRS, federal grantor agencies, and (on a co-counsel basis) state regulators. (Her law practice since 2004 is from BAM Law Office LLC, formerly titled Borenstein and McVeigh Law Office LLC; prior to BAM Law, Eve practiced as a sole proprietor via the Tax Exempt Law Office of Eve Rose Borenstein; and before that, she worked at the Tax Department of Ernst & Whinney in Minneapolis, MN following her 1985 graduation from law school.) Eve’s client base throughout the past three decades has included both individual nonprofit organizations, as well as the CPAs and advisors who serve them. Officed out of Minneapolis, Eve provides her clients with counsel on tax exempt organization mandates, filing and status issues, including direct representation of tax-exempt organizations before the IRS and other regulators (as of the end of 2016, Eve had represented more than 1000 nonprofits before the IRS on examinations, appeals, exemption applications, ruling requests, and roster-related correspondence). Approximately half of Eve’s clients are organizations with gross revenues of less than $2,000,000 per year; the other half are split between groups whose annual receipts are $2m-$10m OR $10m+. In addition to serving clients, Eve is also an active and longstanding participant in the ABA’s Tax Section Committee on Exempt Organizations, and from that Committee she liaisons to the IRS on their Forms 990 and 1023 projects, as well as with respect to small organizations lack of access to educational materials. She also is the ABA Exempt Organizations Committee liaison to the AICPA’s Exempt Organizations Technical Resource Panel and for almost a full decade was that Committee’s liaison to the ABA’s Tax Section Pro Bono Committee. Eve is a widely-respected and dedicated teacher on both exempt organizations tax mandates and the Form 990. She is author/instructor of the country’s two premier Form 990 courses (each co-authored by CPA/M.S.T. Jane Searing and licensed to the AICPA), and also authors/teaches other courses of her own design to state CPA societies. In addition to providing CPE instruction, Eve is also a frequent speaker before nonprofits and their advisors. All told, her teaching and training (whether from BAM Law Office or her teaching consultancy) reflects her passion and commitment to help the sector “do it right the first time.” More information on Eve (as well as her professional resume) is available via her BAM Law Office LLC website (www.BAMlawoffice.com). An updated website regarding Eve’s teaching through Eve Rose Borenstein, LLC will be out in June 2017: www.taxexemptlaw.org.
